What's Up Tour Edge's Sleeve? The Houdini Utility Clubs

By Brent Kelley, About.com

Feb 11 2005

Tour Edge has something new up its sleeve: the Houdini line of utility clubs.

The company that brought the first complete set of hybrid irons (or iron-woods) to market in the Bazooka JMAX is now adding the Houdini to the JMAX family.

The companys calls the Houdini club a "hybrid fairway wood." Tour Edge says: "This state of the art hybrid features a low profile design and 6-inch super radius sole, virtually eliminating turf drag. The grand result is solid contact and shots that easily escape even the most difficult lies."

Houdini clubs feature super-thin Hyper-Steel face and walls, which gave Tour Edge engineers the ability to move extra weight to the sole, thus lowering the center of gravity and adding to the clubs' forgiveness. Bigger, deeper scoring lines on the clubface promote more spin for greater carry.

The Houdini clubs feature an offset head design, combined with a 1-inch shorter shaft, to help square the face at impact. A low kick-point shaft is standard, helping launch the ball on a higher angle.

Houdini clubs come in two 16-degree models - one with a 44-inch shaft is designated as Driver; one with a 42.5-inch shaft is designated as 3-wood; an 18-degree model (5-wood), 21 degrees (7-wood), 24 degrees (9-wood), and 26-degrees (11-wood).

Houdini clubs are available in men's and women's right and left hand models; women's clubs are 1-inch shorter. Standard shaft is Tour Edge Graphite and standard grip is Tour Edge Softech Rubber (custom fitting options available).

The Tour Edge Bazooka JMAX Houdini clubs carry an MSRP of $99 in graphite or $89 in steel.
