The weight that is saved by using a lighter material is repositioned in the clubhead through the use of permanent weights, which are placed based on the golfer's need: to help correct a slice or hook, or ball flight needs.
DeLaCruz Golf says the Mag Cruzer is the first mass-produced driver constructed from magnesium.
"It was worth the wait as we refined the club's specifications," said Mark Schlosser, vice president of sales and marketing and chief operating officer for DeLaCruz Golf. "The Mag Cruzer is the only driver available that will help correct the common slice or hook with weights which, once positioned for an individual golfer's optimum performance, stay in place indefinitely as the player improves his swing."
Up to one-quarter of the clubhead's total weight can be moved around through use of the weighted plugs. The position of the weights around the perimeter of the clubhead are based on the customer's need. Weights on the heel, DeLaCruz says, help correct the slice; more weight on the toe counteracts a hook.
In addition to the Anti-Slice and Anti-Hook models of the DeLaCruz Mag Cruzer driver, there's also the Neutral, which is for golfers who like to work the ball.
All models feature a proprietary graphite shaft made by Graphite Design. The Mag Cruzer is available in both men's and women's models, and a left-handed model will be added in 2005.
