Is it a hybrid or is it an iron? It's a hybrid that looks like an iron. It's the Exotics EX-1, the newest clubs from Tour Edge under that company's Exotics brand.

The EX-1 irons feature a stainless steel head with a tungsten sole. The tungsten is not a plug, but is fused to the bottom of the head - through a process Tour Edge calls "tungsten fusion" - to form the sole of club.

The process combines the heavier, more engineered tungsten sole with the lighter stainless steel body, mimicking the weighting properties of a true hybrid. The tungsten sole allows nearly 40-percent of the head's total weight (100 grams) to be moved toward the heel and toe, away from the face.

Tour Edge says that that its "engineers created this hybrid with a narrow, 'blade-like' sole, delivering the workability of a blade plus the higher moment of inertia and superior forgiveness you expect from a hybrid."

The stainless steel head features a hollow core along with an undercut cavity that allows for a deeper center of gravity, a larger sweet spot and reduced vibration on impact.

The clubs are available in 2-iron through AW, with a set of eight estimated at $899 with steel shafts or $1,099 with graphite. The Exotics EX-1 hybrid irons come standard with Golf Pride Dual Durometer grips and Nippon GH 950 steel or Fujikura Exotics graphite shafts. The clubs are available in men's and women's right hand.
